The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame is the only museum in the world dedicated to honoring women of the American West who have displayed extraordinary courage and pioneer spirit in their trail blazing efforts.
Since it was established in 1975, the Museum has become an invaluable educational resource nationally known for its exhibits, research library, rare photography collection, and the honorees in its Hall of Fame.
The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, established in 1975 in Hereford, Texas, is the only institution in the world dedicated to preserving and teaching the history of the American cowgirl. In June, 2002, the Museum opened a new building in Fort Worth, Texas. For many, a visit to the museum is the first time they encounter the stories and voices of women (both historic and contemporary) who have contributed to the history and culture of the American West.
The museum includes interactive exhibit galleries that feature artifacts and photographs of the permanent collection, a traveling exhibit gallery, three theaters, an expanded research library, a retail store and a grand rotunda where visitors begin to learn about the spirit of the cowgirl. Guests will be taken to the Modern Art Museum of Ft. worth to view an exhibition featuring many highlights of the permanent collection. A docent will guide them through the works in many media show the diversity of the Modern's collection. Various movements, themes, and styles are represented, including Abstract Expressionism, Color Field painting, Nouveau Réalisme, Pop art, Minimalism, and post-Minimalism, as well as aspects of New Image Painting from the 1970s and beyond, recent developments in abstract and figurative sculpture, and contemporary photography and video.
The Kimbell Art Museum will be the last stop on this cultural tour. A docent will offer insights to the collections at the Kimball. It's holdings range in period from antiquity to the 20th century, including masterpieces by Duccio, Fra Angelico, Mantegna, Caravaggio, El Greco, La Tour, Rubens, Velázquez, Rembrandt, Houdon, Goya, David, Monet, Cézanne, Picasso, Matisse, and Mondrian.
The Museum is one of the few institutions in the Southwest with a substantial collection of Asian arts, and has also assembled small but select collections of Pre-Columbian and African art, as well as Classical, Egyptian, and Near Eastern Antiquities. Guests will enjoy a boxed lunch and drink on this tour.
