Dear Hatters,
My neighborhood is "old," at least by California standards. Those of you who live in Europe and many other parts of the world will probably have to smile when you read that homes in my area date back "all the way" to the 1920's and 30's. You're used to homes and public buildings that are centuries old. But, as you know, everything is relative.
I walk my dog around this neighborhood almost every single day. Our route may vary, but, since there's only so far you can go in 30 – 40 minutes, we pass the same houses with great regularity. They were old when we moved in, but they've continued to age in the course of the 16 years we have lived here. Driveways and walls continue to crack, paint continues to peel, roofs continue to shed shingles.
And, judging from all the trucks I see parked at the curbs, houses require other multiple repairs (such as plumbing and electrical) not so readily obvious to the casual observer. Time does take its toll, and it's foolish to deny it.
But it's an eclectic neighborhood. Most of the homes are well kept and houses in this area still sell quite readily. For many, the charm of the older homes outweighs their age. The mature trees and gracious feeling that an older, established neighborhood offers are attractive to many.

Monday September 6th is Labor Day, and Hatquarters will be closed in observance of the holiday. We will be in the office again at 8am Pacific Time on Tuesday!

Red Hatters never let a grey day dampen their spirits! Queen Lucy Kidwell writes, "On a day which saw gray skies and rain, the color red ruled inside my home! The occasion was a tea party for my Red Hat Chapter, 'Classy & Glamorous Diva's' (Lexington, Kentucky, United States). We like to wear Red Hats, encourage fun, friendship, fulfillment, and fitness for women approaching the age of fifty and beyond. At the party we enjoyed savories, scones, and sweets, and had a teacup exchange. We discussed our monthly meeting and planned our activities for the rest of the year. It was a great day of red hatting!" It's hard to beat a classic tea party!
