The M-M Red Hat Sisters (Albuquerque, New Mexico) celebrated RHS Day at the zoo and had a wild time running around the jungle. Leading the safari was their “Queen of the Jungle” Pauline MacPherson, who won Best Costume for the second time consecutively! Last year, she got her picture on the front page of the Albuquerque Journal. Here is HRH Queen Pauline dressed in her out-of-this-world jungle costume and by way of comparison, in all her "royal elegance" as our Queen Mother after receiving the Queen's sash from her loyal subjects.  Said Vice-Queen Dolores Repik, “She makes us proud!”

Hummin’ along on their kazoos, three California chapters rented a Hummer stretch limousine and squeezed in 18 members for a joy ride around town. Judy Shapiro of the Charming Chicks (Pasadena/Mission Hills, California), arranged the trip for her chapter which was joined by the Tea Charmers (Cypress, California) and Red Hat Ya Yas (Arcadia, California). First stop was the local fur shop, then a great sandwich shop, followed by some R&R at the Ritz Carlton Spa and a last stop for frozen yogurt. Their limousine driver said he never had so much fun… as did all the Red Hatters because “We had Hattitude!" laughed Judy.

Several San Fernando Valley chapters gathered together to play bingo at their local American Legion hall to support the veterans of their community. Valley chapters included the RHS Red Queens (Chatsworth, California), The Vivacious Vixens (Chatsworth, California) and Purple Angels with Scarlet Halos (Reseda, California). More than 65 Red Hatters showed up and some members won the big pots.  Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine stopped by to wish everyone good luck.  This was the largest bingo turnout American Legion Post 826 has had in its history. “It's always a good idea to have fun while helping others,” said member Judi Evans.

The Classy Radio Red Hatters (Gresham, Oregon) celebrated the "Year of the Boar" by going to Chinatown for lunch and visiting the Classical Chinese Garden in Portland. Covering one city block, the gardens were all in bloom with colorful spring flowers but the Hatters added even more color with their purple and red regalia. They also added a little a red hat to the "Foo Dog" guarding the garden entrance. Queen Cory Schoch gave her business card to a tourist from China who wondered what their red hats were all about and said she might start her own chapter in China!

The Diamonds in the Pluff (Charleston, South Carolina) spent a play day at Irvine Vineyards, a local winery, learning and tasting about their favorite drink. Queens of the Month, Mary Eason and Helen Metts planned a fabulous afternoon for their chapterettes. Queen of Diamonds, Suzanne Moore said, “It was a day to taste and learn about our favorite drink – wine!”

The Buffalo Girls of Gardiner (Gardiner, Montana) had the privilege of riding one of the original yellow buses, circa 1930s, to Yellowstone National Park. Local residents and visitors purchased raffle tickets to win a ride on the yellow buses for an evening in Yellowstone at a picnic ground near the Roosevelt Lodge. Other Buffalo gals drove out to the picnic area and set up a table to serve wine, crackers and cheese. Queen Sue Johnson posed for this photo on the running board of one of the buses.

The Prominently Purple Red Hatters (Bay City/Essexville, Michigan) heard Sister Sue, a three-time cancer survivor speak and were touched by her sharing. After a wonderful meal and prize drawings, a group of Singing Nuns (not real sisters) entertained more than 300 Red Hatters—another sell-out event. They saw the nun group in Mt. Pleasant a few years ago at the State Convention and it was worth seeing their "Sister Act" again to hear their beautiful harmonizing voices.

The Berry Best of Oxnard (Oxnard, California) enjoyed a multicultural event hosted by members Juliette Ashmoon and Dee Vitrano at Pulse Drumming in Ventura.  The ladies had a lesson in Middle Eastern belly dancing, African and Tahitian drumming, and each guest received a henna (temporary) tattoo from India. Afterwards, the ladies enjoyed tea and feasted on Greek gyro sandwiches and other delectable desserts and treats. Pictured is Queen Jan Berry, surrounded by belly dancers and guests.
