Last week we shared several stories about chapters of the RHS finding ways to indulge in time travel. This week, more such stories have surfaced! Five members of the Pretty Cats in Red (Kokomo, Indiana) sent us a sepia toned photo of themselves, at the Indiana State Fair, from…. who knows what year? Judging from their apparel and the setting it was at least 120 years ago! In the state “next door” the Y-Not Chapter (Springfield, Illinois) toured their old State Capitol Building, guided by their own chapterette, Clara Wright. Most of the Y-Nots are dressed for our own era, but Clara seems to have fallen into a time warp! Congratulations to Charlotte Mizell (Crawford County Cuties, Van Buren, Arizona)! She received a Grand Champion ribbon (appropriately enough, it was purple!) for her red quilt! Queen Tony Whitehead and her other chapterettes are very proud of her! At the Orange County Fair in southern California, Queen Sue II of the Fabulous Founders in Fullerton, California (Sue Davis) took third place in the table setting category. She chose to honor her chapter’s former Queen (me) by staging a red and purple birthday party table in honor of my July birthday. Thank you so much, Queen Sue II! The Feathered Red Hatters of Northeast Iowa really gussied up for the Breakfast Costume Contest at a big Red Hat shindig in Des Moines. They dressed in red chef hats, purple pajamas, and red aprons (some embellished with cookie cutters and other cooking utensils) and carried red plates bearing sugar cookies in the shape of their state. Did they win first place (4 bottles of wine and 4 cookbooks)? Of course they did! The M-M Red Hat Sisters in Albuquerque, New Mexico enjoyed a progressive luau luncheon, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and lasting until well after dark. They began at Queen Delores Repik’s house for fondue. Then on to Vi’s (Duchess of Delight) house for salads and to Judy Kristl’s house for ice cream sundaes and entertainment – Tahitian dancers! The leader of the dancers is a professor from the University of New Mexico; her dancers are also students there. Apparently, Queen Delores’s understudy served as a welcoming committee of one! That’s the question the Dorchester Divas in Dorchester, Ontario, Canada were asking themselves, apparently. When asked to donate a decorated chair to be auctioned off for the London Community Living Chair Affair, they leapt to the task. Some of the Divas donated the chair and articles of regalia; others set to work painting and dressing it. Their chair was so unique, it was chosen for a special feature by two newspapers! Seventeen of the Divas attended the gala charity event to watch their chair auctioned to the highest bidder. Now that’s a great way to have wonderful fun while doing good! It looks like Floridians are excited about so many of us coming their way for our 2008 international convention, “Decades of Sparkle.” The Mad Hatters of Pasco (New Port Richey, Florida) are already creating special items of apparel to wear to this gala event. Queen Mum, Beverly Lipscomb sent photos of their tie dye party, saying they were just “Dyeing to Get Started.” Queen Dolores Ross says that her little chapter (The Whirl-a-bouts, Houston, Texas) consists of seven of the greatest ladies on earth, all of whom have known each other for a really, really long time. They are all in awe of member Linda Stout, who parachuted out of a plane to celebrate her 66th birthday. Queen Dolores says, “Several of us celebrated with her, but kept our feet firmly planted on the ground.” Linda enjoyed the jump so much that she’s planning to do it again in January! Queen Linda Moler (Red Hat Chili Peppers, Essex, Maryland) reports that one of her members, Sue Baucom, was driving her car when a pigeon swooped out of nowhere and snatched the tiny red hat from her antenna. Sue has asked everyone to keep a sharp eye out for a pigeon wearing a red hat! |
