SO MUCH TO CELEBRATE!
It’s February, 2010, and there is so much to celebrate. It kinda’ reminds me of the song – you know, the one that red hatters LOVE to dance to in all of their regalia. I guess everybody loves to dance to “Celebrate…” but if you’ve never been on the dance floor at a red hat convention with the band playing this song, you have definitely missed something.I must tell you about a celebration with red hat queens, and other royalty, on the Treasure Coast of Florida (they have a lot of names for coasts here). Queen Marilyn Waltz, of West Coast Queens’ Council, has created a ceremony for officially coronating queens and it is replete with royal language, a regal processional, vows, and, of course, tiaras. It is both serious and silly (oh, so red hat) and I’ve attended a few to my delight. If you want to get a few chapters together to coronate queens, I say, “Go for it!” With so much creativity in our ranks, I can only imagine the celebrations, your majesties.
What else in February? Groundhogs’ Day! National Wear Red Day! Super Bowl Sunday! Valentine’s Day! Presidents’ Day! The Winter Olympics! All of us who know red hatter, Anne Abernathy (aka Grandma Luge) will remember her sharing her Olympic experiences with us at several conventions – and we’ll miss seeing her this time. She was in the last 6 winter Olympics, lugeing (is there such a word?) for the U.S. Virgin Islands. Hope she still has her red helmet.
EQM Sue Ellen and EVM Linda have reminded me that February is also the month of their first grandchildren's birthdays, which they of course celebrate! And, they added that the amethyst (purple!) is the February gemstone.
So… celebrate everything, anything, something. Live it up! Laugh it up! Dance! Celebrate!
P.S. You might want to celebrate with a Ruby Martini. I read about this in an airline magazine during a recent flight. No, I haven’t tasted one, but the name certainly caught my attention. It is made by pouring vodka over beets and letting this infuse for 3 days. Lemon and lime juice is added to the infusion ( and a little sugar, I think). Personally I think this takes too long, but try it and let me know what YOU think. I prefer my beets pickled.
