Forever New Orleans Tour

Cost: $50

Time: 1:00pm

Tour Duration: Approximately 3 hours

Our story begins in the area where the French founded New Orleans almost 300 years ago: the historic and charming French Quarter. Originally an Indian trading post located on the banks of the Mississippi, the French sought to establish a port on high grounds near this trading post. Thus was the foundation of this quaint and lovely European city.

At Jackson Square in the heart of French Quarter, site of St. Louis Cathedral, you will see famous landmarks and learn the fascinating history behind our unique city. Next the tour will proceed to City Park and Bayou St. John; you will visit historic St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery, where your escort will explain our unique above-ground burial system.

As the tour continues through City Park toward Lake Pontchartrain, the guide will discuss remnants of damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This powerful storm breached the protective levee system in New Orleans that caused much of the city to flood.

Heading Uptown, you will travel along picturesque St. Charles Avenue, lined with rows of magnificent mansions and historical oak trees. You will see lavish Garden District homes built by wealthy Americans following the Louisiana Purchase. You will also pass our old Warehouse District, are vitalized area that is home to our Convention Center.

As our story ends, you will realize that this incredible city is one of spirit, hope, and rebirth!

Mysteries of Louisiana Swamplands

Time: 1:30pm

Tour Duration: Approximately 3.5 hours

Join us for an incredible journey into the mysterious swamps and bayous of southern Louisiana. On today's swamp boat tour, you will be introduced to the interesting history of our Louisiana wetlands and the rich Cajun heritage of the people who inhabit this region.

Today, as your swamp boat travels into the depths of Cajun country, you will hear the tales of the Cajun folks and how they reap the bounty of their surroundings: they trap nutria, mink, otter, and muskrat; they hunt frogs, and alligators; and they fish for catfish and crabs. You will also soon discover the respect and knowledge the Cajun people have for the wildlife and vegetation indigenous to the swamp.

As your swamp boat glides through the waters, gently breaking the tranquility of the ancient bayous, you will see exotic tropical plants and wildlife only found in the Louisiana wetlands. Majestic herons, nutria, and large turtles sunning themselves on tree stumps are abundant; and, the swamp's favorite son, the alligator, will be witnessed in its glory, easing quietly through the murky, cypress-shrouded waters of Louisiana.

You will return to your hotel with a true appreciation of the Acadian people and the unique region they call home!

Cemetery Tour

Cost: $60

Time: 1:00pm

Tour Duration: Approximately 3 hours

New Orleans is a city of dichotomies, perhaps best represented in its traditional Catholic heritage and a subculture of voodoo. Voodoo is a religion brought to New Orleans from West Africa and influenced by refugees from Saint Domingue, today known as Haiti. Our guide will explain the history behind the melding of African and Haitian Voodoo and how this came to gel with Roman Catholicism in New Orleans, along with touring past sites of Voodoo worship.

Your group will be escorted into one of New Orleans' cemeteries, or “Cities of the Dead.” Because of the climate and soil conditions, New Orleanians have traditionally had to bury their dead above ground since the founding of the city in the 18th century. Marie Laveau, the voodoo priestess, is buried in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, and her grave is still visited by many voodoo practitioners.

Guests will receive a gris gris bag from “Marie Laveau,” as she explains the beliefs and tales of New Orleans Voodoo. Your personal gris gris bag is voodoo medicine that may create for good luck, increased business, love, fertility, or your choice of healing need, all within the frame of a Real Creole Voodoo Ritual!

INCLUSIONS:

  • Deluxe transportation
  • Guided tour through two New Orleans cemeteries
  • Voodoo priestess to present a portion of the tour
  • Gris gris bag for each participant
  • All current taxes and gratuities
