THE RED HAT SOCIETY CELEBRATES ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY AND PROVES THAT WOMEN ‘OF A CERTAIN AGE’ ARE UNDENIABLY UNSTOPPABLE
FULLERTON, CA. – February 8, 2018 – The Red Hat Society®, an international playgroup for women approaching 50 and beyond, is celebrating its milestone 20th Anniversary this year. Once thought of as a fad or ‘club for old women,’ The Red Hat Society has defied stereotypes and proven that women of a certain age are bold, fearless and unafraid to meet today’s world head on--together. Their rally cry, “Red Hatters Matter!” ensures the world knows they are no longer invisible within society and they are not done yet! The Society has become a gentle women’s movement embracing a renewed outlook on life filled with fun and friendship and a commitment to lifelong dreams.
Luke Song designs for many fashion companies and his work has been featured in movies, TV, books, magazines and other venues. One of his most notable designs was worn by Aretha Franklin at President Barack Obama's 2009 inauguration. His label, Mr. Song Millinery, is currently sold in over 500 boutiques around the world.
The Society has been the focus of major publications, ten books (one of which reaching the New York Times Best Sellers list) television and other media, in addition to having the Red Hat Society brand appear on a myriad of products. The RHS was the focal point of the musical HATS! The Musical that launched in 2006. It was recognized with an award by the Pop Culture Association and the American Culture Association in 2008 for their contribution to popular American culture. Pop culture status was truly achieved when the Society was the focus of an episode on the longest running animated series, The Simpsons, in which Marge Simpson joins a local Red Hat Society Chapter. Perhaps the most impressive “appearance” The Red Hat Society has made is in the form of their first red hat and purple boa going on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History in 2011.
The Red Hat Society began with the gift of a red hat and has grown into a universal symbol for women around the globe as they victoriously celebrate turning 50 and entering into the next phase of their lives. The social message behind the red hat has resonated with millions of women regardless of race, creed, occupation, age or socio-economic status. Today, it is commonplace to see Red Hat Society Members frolicking and embracing life with their Sisters in their signature bold colors as they continue to change the traditional notions of maturing women.
