No Hats, No Photos, No Problem!

Ten members of the Northern Lights chapter of the Red Hat Society, accompanied by four friends and spouses, recently traded their signature hats for headsets and embarked on a fascinating tour of the Amazon Fulfillment Centre in Brampton, Ontario.

Due to safety regulations, visitors were asked to leave all headwear behind, meaning the group’s famous red and purple hats stayed in the car until later that evening. Fortunately, Red Hat spirit doesn’t require a hat.

Led by their guide, Afaf, the group explored the massive facility, which spans approximately 860,000 square feet. By the end of the tour, some participants estimated they had logged as many as 7,500 steps.

Members were fascinated by the scale of the operation and the sophisticated robotics system. Rather than humanoid robots, the automated workers resembled wheeled platforms capable of lifting and transporting towers of merchandise to employee workstations. Watching the process unfold, from receiving inventory to preparing shipments for delivery, was both educational and impressive.

Although photography was prohibited inside the facility, the group posed for photos at the entrance before continuing their adventure at Jack Astor’s, where they joined enthusiastic fans watching the Canada-Switzerland soccer match.

The lively atmosphere provided the perfect ending to a memorable day of learning, laughter, and friendship. Now, the Northern Lights Red Hatters are already looking ahead to their next adventure at Woodbine on July 11, with outfits in the planning stages and sunscreen at the ready, assuming summer finally decides to arrive.
