Welcome to the Official RHS Craft Corner! Each month, we showcase a delightful craft for our members to try at home or during their next RHS gathering. It is all about sparking creativity, sharing joy, and crafting together. Since this month’s theme is All Things RHs Pirate and Talk Like a Pirate Day is September 19th  this craft is perfect.  We are taking the Pirate Logo from the Members’ Corner and listing 5 ways you can use and we are including the instructions for the Pirate Badges.

The Pirate Logo is found Members’ Corner under Digital Media and is downloadable that can be sized to 8"x11".  Here are a few super easy ideas that can be done without a lot of fuss or special supplies:

  1. Pirate Hat Cut-Outs
  • Print the pirate logo on cardstock.
  • Trim it into a “hat” shape and tape/glue it to a headband or elastic band.
  • Add red feathers, sequins, or glitter for that Red Hat flair.
  1. Pirate Flag Fans
  • Print the pirate logo on plain printer paper.
  • Attach to a wooden stick, paint stirrer, or even a straw to make a “mini flag.”
  • Embellish the edges with red ribbon or purple glitter for Red Hat colors.
  1. Pirate Badges
  • Print smaller versions of the logo (4 per page).
  • Cut into circles/ovals and back with red or purple cardstock.
  • Tape a safety pin or clothespin on the back — instant pirate badge or brooch!
  1. Treasure Map Placemats
  • Print the pirate logo in the corner of an 8.5"x11" sheet.
  • Tea-stain or crumple the paper to make it look like an old treasure map.
  • Use them as placemats or table décor at your luncheon.
  1. Photo Booth Props
  • Print the logo and attach to sticks as props.

 

Pirate Badges Instructions

Time: 15–20 minutes
Materials Needed:

  • Printable Pirate Logo (sized small — 4 per sheet works well)
  • White cardstock or heavy paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or double-sided tape
  • Red or purple cardstock (for backing)
  • Safety pins, clothespins, or adhesive badge pins
  • Optional: glitter, rhinestones, feathers, ribbon for embellishment

Instructions:

  1. Print the Logo
  • Print the pirate logo on white cardstock. Aim for about 3–4 inches wide so it fits nicely as a badge.
  1. Cut Out the Logos
  • Carefully cut around each pirate logo. Circles or ovals look great, but squares work too if you want simple edges.
  1. Create the Backing
  • Cut slightly larger shapes out of red or purple cardstock (about ½ inch wider than your logo cut-out). This gives your badge a colorful Red Hat border.
  1. Assemble the Badge
    • Glue the logo cut-out onto the colored cardstock backing. Let dry a moment if using liquid glue.
  2. Attach the Pin
  • Use tape, glue, or hot glue (if available) to secure a safety pin, clothespin, or adhesive badge pin to the back.
  1. Add Some Sparkle.
    • Optional: decorate the edges with glitter, sequins, rhinestones, or even a small feather for pirate flair.
