In the exciting world of Red Hatters, where laughter and joy take center stage, we proudly present our February Queen of the Month, Bonnie Christensen, also known as "Sparkle-plenty, Lady of Fun." Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Bonnie's journey is a tale of family, love, and a commitment to bringing joy into the lives of others.
Born in the Windy City, Bonnie's life took a turn for the sunnier side when, at the age of three, her family relocated to the glitz and glamour of Burbank, California USA —home to movie stars and dreamers. Growing up amidst the allure of Hollywood, CA USA, Bonnie learned early on that behind the fame, there were ordinary people with extraordinary stories.
Burbank High School became Bonnie's stomping ground, laying the foundation for a life filled with family and adventure. After tying the knot, Bonnie and her husband, Dennis, embarked on a remarkable 65-year journey of marriage. As devoted parents, they raised two daughters and a son, steering clear of the challenges that life sometimes throws at families. Dennis, a skilled carpenter turned building contractor, and Bonnie, the epitome of a loving stay-at-home mom, created a haven of love and stability for their children.
Now, with six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren residing in Idaho USA, Bonnie's family tree has blossomed into a testament of enduring love and familial bonds. Living in the countryside, surrounded by fields of towering corn and her husband's Black Angus cows, Bonnie found solace in the simple joys of gardening and quilting.
While living in California, in collaboration with her dear friend Carol Wickwar, Bonnie entered the world of entrepreneurship, running a successful drapery business. Witnessing the transformation of their clients' homes brought immense satisfaction and a touch of glamour to their lives.
The adventure continued as Bonnie joined the City of Corona's Parks and Recreation Department. As a bus driver for the Braille Club and a Day Tour Guide for Hollywood shows and San Diego trips, Bonnie was paid to have fun – a job that perfectly suited her vibrant personality.
The turning point in Bonnie's Red Hat journey occurred when, after her move to Idaho, she discovered the Red Hat Society. Joining in 2005, Bonnie experienced the camaraderie and zest for life that defines this sisterhood. Five years later, when the reigning Queen Mum relocated, Bonnie took the helm as the Queen of Classy Red Hat Mamas II, a position she holds with grace and flair.
In her role, Bonnie ensures the lively spirit of the chapter stays alive. Monthly meetings and luncheons, ice cream socials, movie outings, and collaborations with other chapters keep the vibrant energy flowing. The chapter hosts two annual events – the Easter bonnet parade and the October costume party – attracting around 65 enthusiastic ladies.
As Bonnie shares, "I keep very busy, but that's the way my life has been, and I've enjoyed it!" Her unwavering commitment to fun, friendship, and the Red Hat way of life makes Bonnie Christensen a true Queen of the Month, shining bright in the world of Classy Red Hat Mamas II.
