QotM – Christine Craycroft – March 2024

Christine Craycroft, affectionately known as the Queen Mum among her fellow Red Hat Society (RHS) members, is a vibrant figure within the organization. Her journey through life, from a distinguished teaching career, mother and grandmotherhood to her adventures in the RHS, paints a picture of a woman who embraces every moment with enthusiasm and grace.

Born in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, Christine has called it home for most of her life. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Human Development, a testament to her lifelong dedication to understanding and supporting others in their growth and evolution. With a career spanning an impressive 41 years in education, including time spent teaching Hmong Refugees, Christine's experiences have been as diverse as they are enriching.

During her tenure as a teacher, Christine witnessed firsthand the resilience and adaptability of the human spirit. Her time with Hmong Refugees provided invaluable insights into the process of assimilation and the strength of familial bonds. Through parent education classes and her interactions with students and their families, Christine fostered connections that transcended cultural barriers.

In late 2000, Christine found herself in search of a new women's organization to join after the disbandment of her previous club. It was then that she discovered the Red Hat Society. Despite initial apprehensions about the attire requirements, Christine found warmth and camaraderie among the members of her first chapter in Riverside, CA USA. From there, her involvement with the RHS only flourished, with Christine eagerly joining multiple chapters as they sprouted across Orange County.

For Christine, the true joy of being a Queen lies in the bonds she shares with her fellow chapterettes. Taking the helm of the Crimson Royals of Surf City in 2011, Christine embraced her role with a spirit of inclusivity and flexibility. Understanding the diverse challenges her members faced, she structured activities to accommodate varying schedules and commitments, fostering a sense of belonging and enjoyment among all.

One of Christine's guiding principles is encapsulated in her favorite quote, "If not now, when?" It's a mantra that encourages her to seize opportunities for connection, adventure, and personal growth whenever they arise. Through her involvement with RHS events, both locally and globally, Christine has forged friendships with women from all walks of life, creating lasting memories across continents.

In recent years, Christine has embarked on numerous adventures, from cruising with British friends to exploring the vibrant landscapes of Australia. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, she remained connected to her RHS sisters through the power of technology, utilizing platforms like Facebook and Zoom to stay in touch and share experiences.

Today, Christine continues to spread joy and camaraderie as a beloved figure within the Red Hat Society. With her infectious enthusiasm and unwavering positivity, she inspires those around her to embrace life's adventures with open hearts and a sense of wonder. As March 2024 Queen of the Month and a cherished member of the RHS community, Christine Craycroft exemplifies the spirit of sisterhood and empowerment that defines the organization.
