Queen of the Month: Queen of Hearts
Meet the extraordinary Queen of Hearts, a title chosen by the Glamorous Ladies Chapter for a remarkable woman because of her all-heart approach to life. Hailing from Aibonito, Puerto Rico, she started her life journey in a vibrant cultural landscape before her family moved to New Jersey when she was just three years old. Her upbringing in the Garden State led her to graduate high school and later join the US Army at the age of 19.
Her military career took her around the world, with service in Berlin, Germany; Panama; Puerto Rico; and stateside in Massachusetts and Philadelphia. After 21 years of dedicated service, she retired back in Puerto Rico, surrounded by family and loved ones. Transitioning to a civilian career, she devoted another 13 years to the Federal Government, and alongside a fellow veteran, established a non-profit organization for Military Survivors.
One of the most poignant roles Queen of Hearts took on during her military career was her work in the Casualty and Mortuary section. Here, she faced the challenging task of delivering news to loved ones when a fellow soldier was killed or missing in action. As a woman, she connected deeply with mothers and wives, providing support and understanding in their darkest moments. Though emotionally taxing, her efforts brought solace and pride to the families of those who had made the ultimate sacrifice.
Her journey with the Red Hat Society (RHS) began in February 2022 when a fellow veteran invited her to a gathering. Instantly welcomed by the ladies, she knew she had found her place. With her enthusiasm for RHS growing, she embraced the fun and camaraderie, attending a Funvention in Las Vegas, where she marveled at the beauty and joy of the attendees. Within just nine months, she became a Queen.
In April 2023, she was recognized for her dedication and passion when she was voted the San Antonio Royal Loyal Communications Queen. She takes immense pride in representing her fellow Queens and is committed to creating memorable moments in San Antonio, Texas, and beyond.
As Queen of Hearts, she leads by example, guiding her chapterettes to enjoy life, create sisterhood, and embrace fun. Her pearls of wisdom: "Always do the right thing and be happy." Her favorite quote, "Have fun, life is too short," perfectly encapsulates her approach to living.
Her online presence keeps her connected with others in real time, ensuring that her influence and guidance can reach far and wide. A highlight of her RHS experience was the 2022 Vegas Funvention, where she was inspired by the stories and friendships she encountered. She eagerly anticipates attending future events and sharing her own stories.
On the personal front, Queen of Hearts has been happily married to her husband Jorge for 29 years. Their love story began at an Army Advanced Non-Commissioned Course in Indiana, where she was initially skeptical of Jorge's jokester demeanor. Yet, a salsa dance revealed his gentlemanly side, and she fell in love. The couple remains strong, with Jorge's humor still a delightful part of their relationship. They have three daughters: the two oldest serve in the Air Force, while the youngest is a Purdue University graduate with a master's degree in business administration.
Queen of Hearts holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. Her hobbies include dancing, exercising, and, of course, being a devoted Red Hatter.
Join us in celebrating the vibrant and inspiring Queen of Hearts, a true embodiment of dedication, passion, and heart!
