October Queen of the Month: Sherry LaBling

Queen Sherry LaBling, a name that sparkles with her love for all things bling, was born and raised in North Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her journey through life has been a tapestry of love, family, and creativity.

In April 2025, Sherry and her husband Ken celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Their love story began through a mutual friend, and they quickly hit it off, leading to a marriage that has spanned five decades. Together, they have raised three sons, and their family has grown to include six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Sherry's career path was as fulfilling as her personal life. She was a dedicated stay-at-home mom until her children were old enough, at which point she joined her husband's trucking company as the bookkeeper. They eventually sold the business and retired, allowing Sherry to focus on her hobbies.

Over the years, Sherry dabbled in knitting, crocheting, and various crafts, but it was scrapbooking that truly captured her heart. For the past 25 years, she has immersed herself in this creative outlet, and more recently, she has taken up card making, which she thoroughly enjoys.

Sherry's involvement with the Red Hat Society (RHS) began in early 2005, thanks to her sister-in-law, Marlene Johnson. Intrigued by the idea, Sherry and Marlene decided to start their own chapter. At just 48 years old, Sherry became a "Pink" Queen, and they named their chapter CRIMSON C.R.O.W.S. (Crazy Reds Outrageously Waiting Senility). They celebrated their 20th anniversary in July, always on the lookout for crow-themed items to add to their red and purple collection.

As the Queen of her RHS chapter, Sherry has cherished the friendships and memories made over the years. She fondly recalls her first event in Vancouver, BC, where they rented a limo and were amazed by the sea of red hats. Annual trips to Lake Chelan, Washington, introduced them to Red Hat Conventions, and they learned the art of dressing up for each event.

Sherry's chapter meets at least once a month, often more, and they have a yearly campout with themed decorations and costumes. Their January PJ Brunch is a time to plan the year's activities, ensuring they always have something fun to look forward to.

Sherry's favorite aspect of being a Queen is the wonderful friendships she has formed. She believes in living life to the fullest, laughing often, and cherishing every moment. Her motto is simple: "We need to live every day to the fullest! We need to laugh a lot, as I truly believe that is one of the most important things in life, and to just have a great time."

Through her journey with the RHS, Sherry has created a legacy of joy, laughter, and lasting friendships, all beautifully documented in her scrapbook pages.
