The Fabulous Floozies: 18 Years of Friendship, Fun, and Giving Back
Published
The Fabulous Floozies held their first official meeting in October of 2008. What began as a small group of ladies simply wanting to wear their purple attire, fabulous hats, and plenty of bling quickly became something much more meaningful.
After joining the Red Hat Society, the Floozies soon discovered just how much fun, friendship, and adventure awaited them. While their chapter may still be small in number, they are certainly big when it comes to enjoying life together. Being part of RHS opened the door for travel, attending events, meeting new sisters, and creating memories that might never have been possible otherwise.
Inspired by the joy they were experiencing, the Floozies decided to host a one-day luncheon to bring together other women who shared the same spirit of fun and sisterhood. After successfully hosting several of these gatherings, they took an exciting leap in 2012, expanding their event into a full weekend celebration in Myrtle Beach. Since then, the annual event has become a highlight, welcoming women who share the love of Red Hat sisterhood.
Each year the Floozies add their own creative flair by designing memorable photo opportunities and choosing a unique theme for their event. These themes allow attendees to express themselves with costumes, accessories, and of course plenty of sparkle.
Last year’s theme, “Halloween with the Floozies,” was nothing short of spectacular. The ladies truly went “over the top,” using the traditional Red Hat colors as inspiration and adding their own creative touches to create costumes that were both elaborate and uniquely personal. It was incredible to see how a simple idea could be transformed into such stunning and imaginative designs.
Looking ahead, the Floozies are already preparing for this year’s theme: “Pirates, Mermaids, and Wenches.” The creativity is sure to be unforgettable as ladies step back in time, dressing as their favorite characters while incorporating feathers, sparkle, and of course plenty of bling. The Floozies promise it will be a memorable adventure aboard the “Floozie Pirate Ship!”
Beyond the fun and festivities, the Floozies also use their event as an opportunity to give back. Each year they host a fundraiser for Hospice, an organization close to their hearts. The chapter works all year preparing for this effort, and the generosity of fellow Red Hatters never fails to amaze them.
At last year’s event alone, the Floozies sold 187 halo hats for $25 each, with all proceeds donated to Hospice. Additional funds were raised through handmade items, raffles, and generous monetary donations from their Red Hat sisters. Together, they were able to donate $6,000 to Hospice, making a meaningful difference for those in need.
As the Fabulous Floozies proudly enter their 18th year as part of the Red Hat Society, they continue to celebrate the organization that made it all possible. They are grateful to the vision of founders Sue Ellen Cooper and Linda Murphy, whose creation of the Red Hat Society has given thousands of women the opportunity to form lasting friendships and share joyful experiences.
For the Floozies, the journey has truly been a “wild ride” filled with laughter, travel, creativity, and countless sisterhood moments. They look forward to continuing the tradition—meeting new Red Hat’s sisters, reconnecting with friends, and welcoming everyone to join them either at their November event or somewhere along the Red Hat trail during the coming year.
